The Mas de la Bosse mill

In Promilhanes, the old windmill at Mas de la Bosse is almost two hundred years old.

Its life as a mill was not an easy one. It spent a century grinding grain at the mercy of the wind. Then, for around fifteen years, it was motorized. Disassembled and forgotten, it stood still for forty years. Restored in the 1980s, it was finally able to turn every summer until a stormy day in 2014. The Mas de la Bosse windmill was built in 1828. It operated using wind power until 1932. Then, a steam locomobile powered the mill until 1934 to increase its efficiency. As wind is an unpredictable source of energy, a constant driving force was needed. It was not until 1984 that the mill was returned to the wind, after 10 long years of restoring the entire mechanism.
