A century-old flour mill

An entire economic life had developed along the Sèvre Niortaise river: tanning, milling, cloth fulling... Of the 17 wheat mills recorded in La Mothe St-Héray in 1716, only this one remains. Its origins date back to the 11th century. Originally a tanning mill, it became a flour mill. In 1926, it was doubled in size with the addition of a sophisticated flour mill, organized on three levels. The ingenious system of belts and machines, still in place, operates before your eyes to the rhythm of the river.
