St Thibery Mill

HERAULT (34) – Le site du Moulin de Saint-Thibéry se situe dans le quartier du Concasseur (on parle aussi du « Moulin du Concasseur »). Parking et petit espace pique-nique ombragé sur le site.

This site on the banks of the Hérault River is worth a detour and a little time spent there, as its setting is very bucolic.

It is ideal for a picnic, leaving you time to admire the magnificent "bleed" mill. Preserved and restored, it is an old grain mill with four pairs of millstones, dating from the 13th century and belonging to the powerful Benedictine abbey of Saint-Thibéry until the Revolution.

The interior houses a hydraulic power plant. On site, there are information panels about the mill and its history.

The mill is not open to visitors. Close to the watermill (40 m away), the remains of the "Roman Bridge" add to the charm of the place. Three of the arches of this very old bridge (possibly Roman) still remain, and two of the piers still have their pier bays (for draining flood waters).

Next to this charming spot is the departure point for the Saint-Thibéry Pedal Rail: a short route (3 km there + 3 km back) on the old Vias-Lodève railway line; a fun and original rail-based pedal boat; around a third of the journey takes place in natural surroundings.
