Mountain Mill

To be seen from the outside

The brick and stone mill dates back to 1731 and was built with materials from the former Watten Abbey, on the site of a wooden mill.

Built on the remains of uncovered fortifications, the mill operated until 1930, lost two wings in a storm in 1937, and was reused in 1940 as an observation post for the German army.

Listed as a historic monument on November 2, 1977, it was acquired by the municipality in 1985 and completely renovated, with the collaboration of the Regional Association of Friends of Mills and the Association of Friends of Old Watten and its Region. A new roof was installed in 1987, and wings in 1988. A new mechanism was installed in 1994, allowing the mill to grind grain as it did in the past.
