The Millstone Rocks

The Rieux millstone site offers a beautiful series of millstones with a diameter of approximately 90 cm. This medieval site is located north of the town of Roche-la-Molière and is easily accessible by car or on foot. However, it is difficult to access for people with reduced mobility as it is very steep. We have begun to develop a millstone trail that should make it even easier to access. This site will be equipped with signage, which the town's seventh-grade students have begun to create, to explain how millstones were extracted and their uses. Roche-la-Molière is fortunate to have many millstone sites around the town, which will be studied and protected. With the number of millstone quarries found during walking surveys and mentions in a few ancient texts, Roche-la-Molière is one of the important millstone centers, as these millstones were exported.
