ILLE ET VILAINE (35) – Les forges de Paimpont sont un ancien site industriel remarquable de la forêt de Paimpont. Situées en Ille-et-Vilaine, elles sont plus proches de Plélan-le-Grand que de Paimpont (le site est à cheval sur les deux communes).
They were the largest wood-fired forges in Brittany from the 18th century onwards. They remained in operation until the end of the 19th century. Their location was made possible by the proximity of an open-pit iron ore deposit, the existence of a large river system, and the easy supply of locally produced charcoal.
The site has been listed as a historic monument since July 24, 2001, and underwent renovation before opening to the public.
