A magnificent architectural monument to admire from the outside
The Gouville spinning mill dates back to 1829 and was a wool weaving factory that was renowned throughout the region. It was a key industrial hub in Gouville. The spinning mill never recovered from World War I, which severely weakened the economy. In 1923, it was bought and converted into a summer camp. Between 1923 and 1939, 9,000 children attended the camp. During the Second World War, it became a training center for boys (boilermaking, electricity, and metalwork). It currently houses the Gouville-sur-Mer community center, exhibitions by the tourist association, and the 3A workshop. The building is also surrounded by 14 municipal cottages.
