Richard de Bas Mill

Near Ambert, in the beautiful Laga Valley, lies a hamlet lost in the greenery: Moulin Richard de Bas is the last "paper mill" in Auvergne. This region was one of the first to produce paper in France, starting in the early 14th century.

Today, the Moulin Richard de Bas is still in operation and produces some 200 sheets of paper per day, destined for publishers, artists, and other lovers of fine paper. It is also France's first living museum, classified as a Historic Monument since 1983 and a Living Heritage Company since 2020.

Outside of school holidays, the mill and shop are open from Tuesday to Saturday.

Tours depart at 10:30 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. (for the month of May 2025)
