Buglais Mill or Benedictine Mill

The mill was purchased by the municipality of Lancieux in 1973. Its exterior (masonry, roof, framework) was restored in 1976 by Jean Peillet, a millwright who has since passed away, under the supervision of the French Buildings Authority. It was also Mr. Peillet who rebuilt the cart with capstan, to move the mobile frame.

The Benedictine Mill has become the symbol of the village. It was listed by decree on September 9, 1975.

The first restoration was completed in 1990 with the refurbishment of the internal mechanism. The work focused on the drive shaft, the 24-meter wingspan, the gallows, the hopper, the sifter, and two pairs of original millstones, one for wheat and the other for secondary cereals. One of these millstones is engraved with its date of manufacture, 1874, and the initials of the miller who was working there at the time: G. C. Buglais is thus the first mill to produce flour in Brittany during demonstrations. It is open to the public during the summer season, in July and August.
