A living heritage from the 15th century! It is one of the last mills still in operation in the region. Thanks to interactive displays, visitors can discover the secrets of milling, from grain to flour production.
Since the 15th century, the Moulin Cyprien has been tirelessly turning its water wheel in the Sarthe river. Near the mill, the wood-fired oven extends the experience with bread and fouées (small bread rolls) baked throughout the season.
Equipped with a generator, the mill also contributes to sustainable development through the production of hydroelectricity. No production in 2020.
In 1995, the mayor of the village, Gérard Choisnet, who loved the mill and recognized the site's potential, agreed with the owner on a lease with an option to purchase. Finally, in April 2000, the site's owner and last miller, Raoul Cosnier, signed the deed of sale with the Val de Sarthe community of municipalities. Very quickly, a project for a river recreation center was drafted, the mill was restored by the Association du Moulin de Fillé, created in 1996 also on the initiative of the municipality, and the buildings of the Moulin farm were also renovated.
The site, which was renovated by the community of municipalities and inaugurated on Saturday, June 28, 2008, has a multifaceted cultural mission. The first is, of course, milling, which was already underway thanks to the preservation association that had renovated the wheel and had been running the site for several years by producing flour once again.
The second part concerns leisure activities related to water, which is omnipresent throughout the nautical base. A little later, a guinguette will be built at the top of the site to revive this tradition, which was very popular on the banks of the Sarthe in the 19thcentury .
The barn and the miller's house have been refurbished to accommodate artists invited to produce worksin situduring residencies.
