Discover a typical watermill from the south of France, recently restored, with its ingenious reservoir system (pansière), and step into the world of milling. You will enter Julien's mill, where a photo exhibition and explanations of how it works await you. A short walk will allow you to see two other mills from the outside.
In fact, the village of Neffiès had no fewer than six water mills on its territory, all of which operated in a similar manner. Each mill was equipped with a large, long reservoir (pansière), fed by water from a stream captured upstream. When the basin was full, the mill used the force of the water to turn the wheels and millstones and thus produce flour. This technical concept, particularly well suited to the climatic and hydrogeological constraints of the region, was used throughout the south of France. The site has undergone several restorations by the municipality of Neffiès since the 2000s and until very recently. It gives a clear and educational idea of how this type of structure works.
