The Rouets Valley is known for its long history of craftsmanship, as the power of the Durolle River has been harnessed here since the Middle Ages. The early 20th century saw the closure of most of the spinning mills in the valley in favor of the cutlery industry, which was mainly based in the Usines Valley downstream.
In 1998, Thiers Town Hall opened a tourist trail to the public, combined with the cutlery museum, presenting the history of the area, knife-making techniques, and the operation of the last working waterwheel in the valley and its paddle wheel.
A fascinating walk (wear sturdy shoes)
