The largest fortified mill in France.
In 1309, Amanieu VII d'Albret, ancestor of Henry IV, built a four-towered mill overlooking the Gélise River. Designed as a veritable medieval fortress, it combined military power with economic purpose.Over the centuries, it was used for a variety of activities: flour production, cloth fulling, electricity generation, and then cork stopper manufacturing. Renovated inthe19th century by Antonin Bransoulié, it was transformed into a veritable industrial complex before being ravaged by fire in 1937.
Today, this monument, unique in France, has been restored and enhanced, inviting you to immerse yourself in an exhibition spread over three floors, retracing more than eight centuries of history.
